This Year's Judge:

Helen Dowling has a BMA from Wintec Hamilton and an MFA from Whitecliffe Auckland. Her work is held in the permanent collections of the Wallace Arts Trust and the Waikato Museum, as well as several private collections. Helen likes the idea that art has the ability to connect the self to the self and the self to the world. She is delighted to be a judge in this year’s NYAA and wishes all entrants the very very best. Daron Parton is originally from the UK. He moved over in 1995 with his NZ wife, Karen and they have two boys, Ollie and Rhys. He graduated from Central St Martins School of Art. He started working as an illustrator straight from college mainly for Editorial clients. He worked as a designer for 5 years and as a freelance illustrator for over 25 years. His work comprises of Packaging, Advertising, Digital, Editorial and children’s books. In the last year he’s been taken on as a political cartoonist with the NZ Herald. He has  also worked as a teacher at AUT & Wintec, teaching BA students. Daron also works on his own work, i.e. painting. The paintings are dotted around the world.
